How To Upgrade To Mac OS X Mavericks

Apple recently released Mavericks its latest version of OS X. This article describes step by step how to upgrade to Mac OS X Mavericks. But before you start upgrading your existing Mac OS X to Mavericks, I strongly recommend to backup all your data to a external device ( Drive / Cloud).

1. Open “App Store” application and click on the “Updates” tab. You should see OS X Mavericks available to you as a free upgrade.

2. Click on the “FREE UPGRADE” button, this will prompt you to sign-in to your App Store.

3. After you are done signing into the App Store and accepting the terms and conditions, OS X Mavericks installable will being downloading to your “Application” folder.

4. Once the download is complete, you should see a “Install OS X” window with the Mavericks logo. Here, click on the “Continue” button.

5. Next, read and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking the “Agree” button.

6. This will bring up a window showing the Drive or Partition OS X Mavericks will be installed on. This by default is the Drive or Partition your existing OS X lives on. Click the “Install” button to continue with this Drive selection and to upgrade to Mac OS X Mavericks.

7. Selecting “Install” in the prior step will prompt you for your administrator password in order to continue with the installation. Once the admin password is confirmed the system will prep for Mavericks installation and will automatically restart.

9. After the system restarts, you will see a “Install OS X” window as before and OS X Mavericks being installed on the selected Disk, Macintosh HD in this case. Please note, this will take a while depending on your internet speed.

10. Once complete, the system will restart again and you will see a window displaying the Mavericks logo and a message saying “Completing Installation…”. Then you will be asked to login to your system.

11. Next you will see a window, which will give you the option to sign in with your Apple ID to access iCloud, iTunes, App Store, iMessage, FaceTime and more. Note, this step is optional and you can choose to skip this for now by selecting the “Don’t sign in” radio button and then clicking the “Continue” button. This can be setup later from “System Preferences”.

12. Finally, you will be asked to confirm that you want to skip the iCloud setup, once done you will be logged into your new Mac OS X – Mavericks. Yippee!!!
