Firstly, I would like to apologies to my readers for being M.I.A
for the last few weeks. I was off on a well deserved long vacation. You can check some of the pictures I took on our Facebook page. Anyways, during my vacation I brought a few ebooks to kill time and keep myself entertained on my long boring fights and that’s where this article originates from
.
Along Came eBooks
I must admit that I used to be a bit old school and would only buy hard cover books before, but the idea of lugging it half way across the world is not my version of fun, and do I need to emphasize the ever shrinking baggage limitations. There are other factors, which I will cover shortly, that has slowly but definitely converted me into to buying eBooks. There are quit a few eBook stores that have become available over the years. iTunes / iBooks store and Amazon, in my opinion are the most popular and have a wide variety of collection. I usually find what I am looking for in either of these two stores. Below is a list of well known eBook stores.
Kindle Store (Amazon) - http://www.amazon.com/kindle-store-ebooks-newspapers-blogs/b/ref=topnav_storetab_kstore?ie=UTF8&node=133141011
iTunes / iBooks Store (Apple) – Need iTunes Application or iBooks App on iPad / iPhone

Devices VS Apps
Now, if you are thinking way too many options, then wait till you start shopping for a eBook reader, that is if you do not have one already. Most of the companies or stores mentioned above also sell their own eBook readers. There are also applications that can help you read your ebooks on your PC, MAC or your Tablet. Below is a list of well known eBook readers and applications.
Kindle (Amazon) – Also App available for MAC / PC / iPad / iPhone /Android
iBooks App (Apple) – App only for iPad / iPhone
Nook (Barnes & Noble) - Also App available for MAC / PC / iPad / iPhone /Android
Reader (Sony) - Also App available for MAC / PC / Android
Kobo ( Chapters) - Also App available for MAC / PC / iPad / iPhone /Android
Adobe Digital Edition App (Adobe) – App only for MAC / PC
The Store For Me
Hopefully, the above list of Stores, Devices and Apps should give you some direction. But, the store I like to shop at is Amazon, let me explain why. Before, I do that I need to admit that I do not own a Kindle and that’s what makes the Amazon store more attractive. Like some stores I am not locked to a device and also I do not need to install a App just to buy a book. I can buy it using any browser on any device and read it anyway and pick it up at the same spot I left of from on any other device. I can even read it on my phone if i wanted …. wonder if people really read books on there phone? Anyways, the point is as long as I have a Kindle or a Kindle App I have access to my eBooks anywhere.
Also, another neat feature with eBooks (Kindle included) is that I can easily highlight, make notes and leave bookmarks with ease. This is particularly handy while going through course material. This is one of the main reasons I switched to eBooks from paperbacks. Note, not all readers or Apps have this functionality ( like Adobe Digital Edition), so make sure to check this out before you buy a book or pick a reader. Till next time …. Happy Reading
